Managing your child's sleeping temperature with SmartSnugg
Temperature within your child's sleeping bag can affect their sleep quality...
Re-Post from www.smartsnugg.com.au
We all know how important it is to have the right environment to get a good night’s sleep and of course it is just the same for babies. If they're too hot or too cold they're not going to sleep well, but how do you know? Experts warn about the dangers of overheating your child but do you know what the temperature is inside the sleeping bag or even what temperature you are trying to achieve?
The SmartSnugg baby sleeping system helps you to understand and control your child's sleeping temperature. We are often asked, what is the 'right' temperature for my child to be inside the sleeping bag? SmartSnugg product testing has shown us that babies typically sleep between 29-35 degrees (internal sleeping bag temperature). Of course that varies throughout the night as both the ambient room temperature and your babies body temperature change.
How Do You Know Their Temperature?
Until now the only way has been to go in and touch your child's skin which isn't exactly what you want to do if they are sleeping quietly! With SmartSnugg you get real-time data about the temperature inside your child's SmartSleeper (sleeping bag), through SmartSnugg App. Even when you are fast asleep you'll know that SmartSnugg is monitoring your child's comfort. You can also set up alarms to alert you if there is a problem.
The information is gathered by a 'SmartPebble' (monitor) that sits discretely (will not be noticed by your child) inside a secure internal pocket. The beauty of this is that it is totally removable and so you can move it between bags. It also means that you can simply buy a SmartSleeper as a normal sleeping bag if you don't want the tech!
What Do You Do With The Information?
Of course it would be interesting to know what the temperature of your child is inside the bag but what parents really want is to know how to keep their child at a comfortable temperature throughout their sleep and here are two ways you can do that with SmartSnugg baby sleeping system:
1. Clothing Recommendation Assistant
Our system starts with the expected room temperature and helps you to select clothing that will ensure your child is sleeping in their preferred temperature range. This is possible because we have information about average sleeping bag temperatures inside our SmartSleepers and we have conducted extensive testing, adding and removing different layers to understand the impact that each layer has on the temperature within a SmartSleeper.
Within the SmartSnugg App there is a dynamic clothing recommendation assistant that will calculate different clothing combinations for you, based on the clothing options that you have available.
For people who would prefer not to use technology, we have a manual version of our clothing recommendation assistant that provides you with information about average sleeping temperatures and, importantly, data about about the impact that each layer of clothing has on the temperature within your child's sleeping bag. In this way you can be confident in the sleeping temperature of your child, provided that you are using TOG rated layers.
2. SmartBlankets for Safe, Easy & Accurate Adjustments
Another part of the temperature problem is how can you make adjustments, especially overnight when the temperature can drop so much? We know that most parents don't want to use loose blankets and even if you do, there is no way of knowing what the TOG rating is of most blankets.
We solved this problem by inventing the first safe, attachable TOG rated range of baby sleeping blankets. These attach directly and easily onto same sized SmartSleepers and are currently available in three different TOG ratings (0.5, 1.0 and 2.5). The SmartSleepers give you much greater control over your babies comfort and safety and allow you to easily add or remove a layer and because of our clothing recommendation system you'll know exactly what difference that will make to your child's comfort levels!
If you are interested in a full tech solution you can check out our Starter Kits. If you prefer no tech or you'd just like to start with SmartSleepers and SmartBlankets you can purchase these separately.
